Two members of HDC team participated at PDR’s “Greenhouse”’ 2.5-day course for an immersive training programme in service design that took place from 6th to 8th December with participants from across the UK, Latvia, Greece and Norway.
There they studied on how to apply design tools to a live challenge through a course that was very well structured to not only give a great introduction to service design but also to give real practical experience of applying the techniques in a real, live situation with real, live people and business problems.
During this engaging, highly participative and superb learning experience due to the practical hands-on nature of the course content, HDC members mastered the fundamentals of service design, how to address problems on a policy level and use design to formulate public policy, methods for understanding public challenges from a user’s perspective and used tools for engaging front-line staff in design and innovation projects as well as ways to co-create public services with citizens.
The understanding of how to manage design and innovation within public services gained was immense and the techniques used for designing and iterating on live projects were enlightening. The practical experience gained has given both HDC executives the confidence needed to apply those skills in any workplace.
